Hug: A Minimalist Wedding Ring Design

Unveiling the Beauty of Diamonds

The Hug series wedding ring is a revolutionary design that challenges the traditional concept of wedding rings. Created by renowned designer Jingcheng Wu, this unique ring showcases the beauty of diamonds in a minimalist and innovative way.

Wedding rings have long been a symbol of love and commitment. However, the Hug wedding ring takes this symbolism to a whole new level. Inspired by the question of whether there could be a fresh approach to designing wedding rings, Wu delved into the essence of marriage itself. He realized that marriage is not about finding a perfect person, but about becoming a perfect couple, which requires forgiveness and understanding.

The concept of Hug was born from this realization. With just one piece of material, the ring embraces the diamond, creating a stunning visual effect. Unlike traditional settings with claws or elaborate structures, the Hug ring is completely transparent from the side, allowing the diamond to shine brilliantly from every angle. Its minimalist design stems from its simplified structure, which eliminates the need for a conventional setting to hold the stone.

The realization of the Hug ring is a testament to the craftsmanship and skill of the designer. Each ring is meticulously handmade, starting from the initial hand-drawn design. Skilled goldsmiths and stone-setters bring the design to life, using materials such as white gold, platinum, titanium, pink gold, yellow gold, and diamonds. The technique of securely holding the stone remains a closely guarded secret, known only to the designer and the highly skilled stone-setters involved in the production process. The Hug ring can also be crafted using lab-grown diamonds, offering a sustainable and ethical option for those who prefer it.

With dimensions of 20.6mm width, 25.8mm depth, and 9.9mm height, the Hug ring is a statement piece that exudes elegance and sophistication. It is available in various sizes to ensure a perfect fit for both men and women.

As a wedding ring, the Hug series comes with a larger diamond for the lady's ring and a smaller one for the man's ring. The rings can be worn separately or combined to create a unified look. The space in the lady's ring is designed to accommodate the man's ring, emphasizing the idea of unity and completeness. It is important to note that both rings should have similar sizes to be worn comfortably on the same person.

The Hug series wedding ring project commenced in January 2022 in ShenZhen and was completed in April 2022. Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted on existing wedding ring designs, particularly those of top brands. The aim was to create a design that stood out both technically and aesthetically from the conventional options available in the market.

The Hug ring presented several challenges during its development. The most significant hurdle was determining the perfect balance between holding the stone securely and maintaining a minimalist aesthetic. Countless experiments were conducted to find the optimal angle and amount of material required to prevent the stone from falling while keeping the design as minimal as possible.

The Hug series wedding ring is a true testament to the creativity and innovation of Jingcheng Wu. Its unconventional design breaks away from the traditional norms of wedding rings, offering a fresh and contemporary option for couples who seek something truly unique. Just like marriage itself, the Hug ring celebrates the beauty of simplicity and the power of unity.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category in 2023. This award acknowledges designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills while contributing to the improvement of quality of life. The Hug ring's ability to incorporate art, science, design, and technology makes it a true gem in the world of jewelry.
